|
Civic committee purchased, planted and maintained flowers at 4 Civic Locations. In 2003, the Civic committee along with the support of other members and interested members of the community will complete the plantings on Vinegar Hill. Brush along the steps has been cleared and the Borough has installed new lighting. |
|
A scholarship was awarded to the Forest Ecology Camp sponsored by the McKeever Environmental Learning Center and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. |
|
Julia Pound scholarships were presented to two Indiana County high school students who are attending Penn State University. |
|
|
|
Presented 3 awards at the New Growth Arts festival. Best Floral Professional, Amateur and Student. |
|
Created unique floral arrangements with Daffodils to benefit the American Cancer Society during Daffodil Days. |
|
Coordinated with and for the benefit of the VNA/Hospice Foundation for the annual "Hope in Bloom" garden tour. |

Youth Gardening committee coordinated with the Girl Scouts from East Pike Elementary School in cleanup of one of the Civic areas to assist them in earning their badge. Scouts were also informed of maintenance of gardens, weeding and planting. Also presented information to all schools in the county on youth poster and poetry contests sponsored by the GCFP and/or NGC. |

Provided floral arrangements for a luncheon with a Chinese delegation of government officials who visited Indiana for the first time. Luncheon was coordinated by the Indiana Area School District and the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce. |

Established a 'sister club' with 'El Club de Jardineria de Panama' to help promote gardening interests world wide. |
Conducted a catalog Plant Sale in early May to provide opportunities to purchase unique and/or tried-and-true plants in cooperation with Trim Tree Nursery (all proceeds benefited the Indiana Garden Club) |

Participated in District and State 'Trash to Treasure' contest where members were encouraged to make a floral arrangement utilizing recycled materials in support of EARTH DAY.

Conservation & Enviornmental Education committee purchased and planted 2 trees at Creekside Washington Elementary School for ARBOR DAY. Each year the garden club selects an elementary school within Indiana County for planting and works with the students. |
Purchased and planted 3 trees at the new Borough parking lot along S 6th Street. |

Provided Environmental and Educational groups with the opportunity to promote Environmental Awareness at May Mart. Provided demonstrations on Container gardening and others. KID's Korner was a big success with children making suncatchers utilizing a method of pressing flowers or making flower arrangements. |

Supported local organizations with interests in gardening through inclusion of their activities in our newsletter. |
Supported planting of trees for the September 11 Memorial in Shanksville. |

Planted over 1300 bulbs at the Point at 7th Street & Wayne Avenue (all red/white/blue). Bulbs will bloom beginning in March of 2003 - June 2003 in commemoration of the Indiana County Bicentennial Celebration. Fall plantings of red/white/blue pansies will take us through until planting of annuals in June of 2003.

Members gathered November 17th for the annual decorating of the VNA Tree of Lights located in the lobby of the 119 Professional Center. The majority of ornaments were handmade by one of the Garden Club members. This, the 16th annual Tree of Lights is dedicated to the volunteers of the VNA agencies.
